Will We Need the Bible In Heaven?

“Will we need the Bible in heaven?”

“All Scripture is inspired by God…” (2 Timothy 3:16). The Bible is the word of God.

“The very word of God continues to work in you who believe.” (1 Thessalonians 2:13)
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit…” (Hebrews 4:12)
The Bible is not merely a book, but a living force that comes from the heart of God.

What is the purpose of the Bible? Is it to reveal the character of God? Is it to bridge sinful humanity with Godly divinity? The Bible was given to us as a result of sin. Humanity lost its path and God sent His word to direct us back home, like a map or GPS. Therefore, if we get back home, will we have a need for the Bible?

When we get to heaven, will we not be face to face with our Creator? Will we not touch the hands and feet that were pierced for our sins?

“Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.” (1 Corinthians 13:12)

I will be face to face with God in heaven. But wiill that experience be enough to know God? My answer is no.

“How great is our Lord. His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!” (Psalm 147:5)
“Can you solve the mysteries of God? Can you discover everything about the Almighty?” (Job 11:7)
The created cannot fully exhaust the Creator. Even though we will be face to face with God in heaven, we will never come to a full understanding of God’s perfect and magnificent character, which is love. We will continue to study for ages and ages to come, just as the unfallen worlds are continuously doing now, how unfathomable and wonderful the “mysteries of God” really are.

“The themes of redemption will employ the hearts and minds and tongues of the redeemed through the everlasting ages...Forever and forever new views of the perfection and glory of Christ will appear. Through endless ages will the faithful Householder bring forth from His treasure things new and old.” (Christ’s Object Lessons p. 134)

We will be students for an eternity. Get used to it! But there are no student loans in this school. We could not ask for a more perfect and wonderful textbook, one that stands forever, the Bible!

“The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.” (Isaiah 40:8)
