ECKCM 2015_Day 2

Morning devotion is a great way to start the day. You’re reminded of how gracious God is and you carry that throughout the rest of the day. The EM Adults get up at 6AM and is provided with spiritual bread by Jane Lee, who left her husband and young boys to share a week of herself, with the camp. She gave an honest and open testimony about her life and how she came to the place she is in life.

As tradition, there was an opening ceremony in the morning. All the EM came together to officially start the camp. Pastor Kevin Kim introduced this year’s verse, Philippians 4:13: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Each department provided a funny, cute video clip to get the attention of their attendees. Each group coordinator introduced their team and invited their age group to their location. Each speaker was introduced, and each teased what their topic was going to be about and made sure their age group became interested. Alexis Rivera and Molly Gray will speak to the Juniors. Pastors Keith Gray and Henry Johnson will speak to the Earliteens. Shiphrah Fepulea’I and Peter Gregory will speak to the High School and Collegiate. Peter Gregory and Keith Gray will speak to the Young Adults; and Pastor Chester Clark III and Janet Page will speak to the EM Adults.

The Young Adults had their morning program with Julie Kang, who led a seminar on how to understand your true motive. Each of us is driven by various motives, but they all come down to:

1. Praise Me (we do things to get praise, worship, thanks, etc.)

2. Make me Famous (we do things to popular within a group, and when we achieve that, we leave that group and seek out others for popularity)

3. Love Me (we do things to get people to love us)

4. Perfect Me (we set high standards and achieve them to make ourselves better)

As we acknowledge what our motive is, we recognize our selfishness and why we do certain sins. At the same time, if we are able to discern other’s motives, we are able to acknowledge them in the way that makes them feel good and create a positive relationship with them.

The first annual Uni+K Movement workshop were moderated by Pastor Keith Gray and his wife, Molly. The Movement is for non-marrieds, who are single, widowed or divorced. The church while encouraging positive marital and parental relationships, sometimes exclude non-married that sit in the pews. Molly led the ladies, while Pastor Keith led the men. Knowing that we were safe from judgement, each shared their past relationship experience, as well as the hopes for a future spouse. Then they switched, and Keith led the women, while Molly moderated the men. The movement will help and encourage after camp through facebook and GroupMe.

The evening session was led by Pastor Keith Gray, who told the story of a young man who eagerly went to the home of his girlfriend to propose. In his eagerness, he stepped through the grass and went into the house. As the family welcomed him and sat down for a meal together, he noticed a smell, and realized that he had inadvertently tracked their dog’s poop into their house. As he sweated and stressed about how to clean it up, the father graciously forgave and went on his knees to clean it off the floor.

In Joshua 24:14, it says: Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. As you read the chapter, which happens at the close of the Israelites’ wilderness journey, you understand that the Israelites still had false gods. The same way, we see that we must put our selfish service of being active at church, earning our points to heaven. “Now” put away the gods which your fathers served…As we study this week, we understand that we have poop that we drag inside the church with us. We have gods that our parents served, and we serve, even if we deny being just like our parents. But thank God, the problem isn’t ours but God’s. It is His house that we stepped in, and He will clean it with his celestial hands. Anything that would tarnish God’s house, we are unable to let go, but God will do it for us.

The day ended with a session at Sweet Frog Fro-Yo, with a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Losers paid for winners but after a day of spritifual food, new friendships - everyone was a winner.
