ECKCM 2015_Day 4

The High School has two speakers: Shiphrah Fepulea’I and Peter Gregory. In the morning, Shiphrah introduces who God is, and in the evening, Peter explains why we should believe in Him.

Jeremiah 31:3: Long ago the LORD said to Israel: “I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself. But our God is a jealous God, did you know that? There are several verses that describe him in this way, including Exodus34:14 - For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name isJealous, is a jealous God: This is how much God loves you. He gets jealous when you have other gods. It’s not a healthy relationship, when one is jealous for the other and always wanting them, because it means that the other is not always available or is untrustworthy. Who do you worship besides God? Why are you untrustworthy? Refuse to be forced into a fake relationship with God…but do you desire a genuine relationship with Him?

After lunch, the inaugural “Battle of the ages” were waged between the Earliteens, High School, Collegiate and Young Adults. They competed in a series of games, which doesn’t really have any names, but can be described in relays of wheelbarrow, leap frog, fill the bottle, etc. The game culminated in an epic tug of war with the Young Adults dominating. As points were calculated, third place went to Young Adults, second place went to Collegiate, and 1st place was won by the…Earliteens.

The evening message was given by Peter Gregory who gave his conversion testimony and challenged his audience to step out in faith. Without thinking of their Christian education, what kind of god would you believe in? Omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient. He pointed out how all things man-made are symmetrical. A chair, pair of shoes, bookbag - and when we see these objects, our brain understands that these are man-made. We don’t see it being made by their creator, but we know it was. In the same way, our body, nature, the universe is also symmetrical - but we insist on seeing the maker, or questioning the existence of the creator. Our conscience was given by our maker. And our desire for Love, Godly love - was designed in us by our creator.

Despite living a life of fame, he would often feel an emptiness. He felt he had no purpose, especially the only thing he was good at, was entertainment for others. He went to a Korean retreat and heard the message of 1 Corinthians 13. Not knowing the true definition of love, he desired Paul’s truth for himself, so he prayed for it. He didn’t know how to pray, so he just prayed simply and honestly for God to show himself to Peter. Two weeks later, God did in a moment of such clarity that Peter believed it was God’s hand. While learning to drive from his mother, she eventually went off on him, and in typical fashion, his response was to get angry. But as his anger was about to explode out of him, he saw the words of 1 Corinthians 13, flash in this mind, “Love is patient, love is kind…” and as he saw those words, his anger just disappeared. He felt so good about it, he turned to his mother and flashed her a smile. Caught by surprise in the middle of her tirade, she sat next to him stunned. And that’s when he knew there was a God. Peter encouraged us to see God and experience Him, by praying for God to reveal Himself to us.
