Jr KAYAMM West Coast

“Being way from home without cellphones, electronics, and everything that distracts you from God--helped me get closer to God” -Yenna Chang

Junior KAYAMM this year was no different than the years before, it was an awesome experience! Each day was scheduled with different messages, small groups, activities, and discussions. Each evening, our main speaker, Pastor Stephen Lee (New Jersey Church EM pastor), gave us powerful messages that inspired the young people on their walk with God.

Perhaps one of the most rewarding activities that we did was outreach. On Tuesday (July 2, 2013) afternoon, we all went to a local community center called “helping hands pantry” in Loma Linda, CA. At the pantry we packed individual bags of food items for people in need. In a couple hours we packed around 500 bags. All the students worked efficiently and without complaint--it was amazing to see them work so hard for someone else’s joy and not think of themselves. That’s what KAYAMM is all about: it’s about training students that live in a society that only cares and invests for themselves; to invest on others.

When students come to KAYAMM, some come because their parents force them to, some because they want to meet friends, some because they want to get away from home, some come not knowing what to expect at all, and a variety of other reasons. Yet one thing for sure is that after a week, everyone leaves KAYAMM with some kind of encounter with God. Whether it’s in the messages, activities, or even just a kind word from someone, students experience God.

Every student is put in a small group with one or two counselors who love them and care for them for the duration of KAYAMM. No one is left out or forgotten. On Friday night we shared testimonies; many of the students had tears rolling down their faces sharing their experiences and the trials they are going through at home. They share about how God has shown Himself to them through so many different ways throughout the week.
Yes, Junior KAYAMM is only the start of a wonderful KAYAMM experience. We would like to encourage anyone from the 7th and 8th grades, to experience God in a special way at KAYAMM.

“KAYAMM is a place where kids come and witness God in action. Through the sermons, outreach, and small groups, kids get a taste of who God is. Whether that is through the passionate words of a pastor, or through the small actions of a leader, God becomes someone real to them--He is no longer just a mysterious being. KAYAMM is not only a place of spiritual growth, but also a community of encouragement and support throughout an individual's journey with Christ. That is what makes KAYAMM so enjoyable.”
