Although small in number, the youth of Phoenix Central Korean SDA Church stand strong. It has been about six months since we have called ourselves a youth group. We are still young but growing in faith and hope. The lack of a youth pastor has not stopped us from having a separate youth worship every few weeks. Being one of the older members of the group, I am in rotation to give sermons for our service. When this was proposed to me last year, I was very hesitant. I thought, "Me? Give sermon? I don't know enough about the Bible to teach young people about God. There is so much that I need to learn - I need to be taught. I don't like public speaking." As I prepared for my first sermon, surprisingly I became excited as I flipped through the Bible looking for verses, searched the internet for stories to use as examples and thought of personal experiences to share with my fellow youth. I started reading through books that were collecting dust on my bookshelf, such as Steps to Christ and Messages to Young People. This is when I realized the emptiness of my spiritual life. I became encouraged and motivated to search and read. As I stood in front of our small group, my legs began to shake and my voice became soft - I was nervous. However, with the help of God, I was able to successfully convey my message and even receive Amens.

During the short period of time that we have worshipped together, we have grown closer in friendship and with God. We spent some Sabbath afternoons with group activities, cooking and preparing for future song services. We enjoyed the evenings with dinner outings, bowling and K1 indoor kart racing. This past Christmas, we were able to organize a luxurious Christmas party for the church. Our youth prepared dinner, a musical talent show, played games that made us laugh and ended with a white elephant gift exchange. Our church was turned into a wonderful winter wonderland. As our group has been meeting more often, members who had been absent for a while started to come back to church.

I believe that God has brought all of us together for a reason. I know we have the potential to grow in faith and to do great things. For this new year, we plan to do more for the community, such as visiting the elderly at nursing homes and visiting the homeless.
