50 Things to Do on a Sabbath Afternoon

- Go hiking / walking / exploring - spend time in nature
- Read Church magazines from cover to cover or online:

- Listen to online Christian radio stations
- Cook a new recipe / collect recipes from friends/online
- Invite someone who may not be able to cook for themselves such as an elderly person, shut-in, college student, etc. to share dinner with you
- Make a list of members who may need a ride to your next church event. Invite them to ride with you
- Surprise someone in need with a visit
- Find a unique way to fellowship with families who are not as active in the church
- Have a Bible study / prepare a Bible study
- Memorize Bible verses with your family/friends/etc.
- Go prayer-walking or have a prayer meeting
- Visit neighbors & get to know them better
- Visit a nursing home and read or sing to the elderly; help them do tasks they cannot do on their own, such as writing letters to their loved ones, decorating their rooms, etc.
- Discuss with your family what each member learned at church in the morning.
- Listen to sermons online
- Read good books
- Call someone on your cell phone contact list you haven't talked to in a long time
- Play Bible Scattegories, Bible Trivia, Bible Charades, or other Bible games.
- Play games with children
- Feed the homeless
- Learn about one important Adventist from history or living today - read about their lives, impact, etc.
- Make special "welcome" cards/gifts for church visitors for next Sabbath.
- Visit a local park, garden, etc.
- Adopt a pet for the day
- Visit someone who wasn't at church and tell them about the sermon (or take them a recorded copy)
- Write thank-you cards, get-well cards, thinking-of-you cards, birthday cards, etc. in advance.
- Update your blog / submit articles for the English Compass
- Label and catalogue the family album, reflecting and sharing the memories with each other
- Sing praise/hymns together, learning parts or instruments
- Tell children stories about your childhood - or listen to each other's favorite memories
- Make a Book of Remembrance recording how God has blessed you
- Decorate special jars for tithing and mission funds
- Take a walk as a family
- Decorate a Sabbath "Things to Do" box and fill it with ideas. Draw one out on each Sabbath to do
- Plan and rehearse a family musical - perform it next week at a nursing home or children's hospital
- Make shadow portraits or silhouettes of family members or church members. Include them in a scrap book and decorate
- Make a care package for a missionary or loved one far away.
- Call or write to special friends and let them know you're thinking of them.
- Set goals for how you want to pursue excellence: spiritually, physically, mentally, etc.
- Compose an original song
- Listen to good music
- Make a gift for a friend
- Construct a Praise Banner to hang in children's rooms that says, "I'm thankful for..."
- Write a poem
- make puzzles from pictures in old Church magazines
- Plan a family service project.
- Each Sabbath, feature a different family member in a "Why I Love You" spotlight.
